Mass grave investigation
Cerova Caves in Mushvete on Zlatibor
Support for the research of the mass grave in the Cerova pit .
Authorities in the Municipality of Čajetina have decided to support the investigation of a mass grave in the Cerova pit, in the village of Mushvete, where the remains of victims from the end of World War II were found.
Skeletons with traces of being tied with wire were found at the bottom of an unexplored cave by fresco painter and speleologist Dimitrije Mirko Ćelić, and the local government reacted the day after these findings were made public.
According to available data and testimonies from the oldest locals, these are victims who were liquidated without trial after the end of the war. Further research, with the involvement of competent institutions, should shed light on this tragic event and enable descendants to bury their loved ones with dignity.
The Municipality of Čajetina announces that, after all the facts have been established, an appropriate memorial will be erected for the victims.
Memory, truth, and the dignity of victims remain a permanent obligation of society.
The feast of Saint Sava was celebrated in the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord on Zlatibor.
Saint Sava's feast day celebrated

Saint Sava , Serbian Archbishop. Son of Stefan Nemanja, the great Serbian governor, born in 1169. As a young man, he yearned for a spiritual life, which is why he fled to Mount Athos, where he became a monk and with rare zeal went through the entire ascetic constitution. Nemanja followed his son's example, and he himself came to Mount Athos, where he became a monk and died as the monk Simeon. Sava obtained the independence of the Serbian Church from the emperor and patriarch, and became the first Serbian Archbishop. Together with his father, he built the Hilendar Monastery, and then many other monasteries, churches and schools throughout the Serbian land. He traveled twice to worship the holy places in the Holy Land. He reconciled his brothers, who were quarreling over power; he reconciled the Serbs with their neighbors, and by creating the Serbian Church, he created the Serbian state and culture through it. He brought peace among all the Balkan peoples and worked for the good of all, which is why he was respected and loved by all the Balkans. He gave the Serbian people a Christian soul, which did not perish with the fall of the Serbian state. He died in Trnovo during the reign of Emperor Asen, falling ill after the Epiphany service, on January 12, 1236. His body was transferred by King Vladislav to the Mileševo monastery, from where Sinan Pasha raised it and burned it on Vračar in Belgrade, on April 27, 1594 (see April 27).
Preparatory Weeks Before the Beginning of Lent
The time before Easter begins with the Preparatory Sundays before the beginning of Lent, followed by the Sundays of Lent and the Sunday of the Lord's Passion:
- 01. 02. - Week of the Mithra and the Pharisee (the week that follows is the so-called Lazy Week - Wednesday and Friday are not fasted)
- 08. 02. - Prodigal Son Sunday
- 15. 02. - Sunday of the Last Judgment - Meatloaf Sunday (i.e. Meat Offerings; the Saturday before this Sunday, i.e. 14. 2. is All Souls' Day; from 16. 2. no meat is eaten, which is why it is called "Meatloaf Sunday"; the Orthodox Church carefully prepares its spiritual children for the period of Lent, gradually eliminating foods from use in order to prepare the body, and the Gospel stories read at the Sunday Liturgies spiritually prepare them for entering Lent. In the period after Meatloaf Sunday, i.e. from 15 to 21 February, white meat is blessed, i.e. eggs, milk and dairy products).
- 22. 02. - Syropusna Sunday (i.e. White Offerings, a day dedicated to forgiveness from white sin, but above all to forgiveness of those who have sinned against us, so that we may peacefully and with pure hearts sail into the waters of Lent, to meet the Lord.)
The Easter fast is the strictest and longest of the year, as it commemorates the Lord's suffering on the way to Golgotha.

Lecture on Zlatibor
January 31st at 7:00 p.m.
"What does Saint Sava mean to us today?"
As part of the "In Spiritual Footsteps" event, organized by the "Zlatibor" Cultural Center, the audience on Zlatibor can expect a rich and diverse spiritual and cultural program in the coming days.
Saturday, January 31st at 7:00 p.m.
For the third year in a row, as part of the "Spiritual Footsteps" event, a sermon by Father Gojko Perović will be held on the topic "What does Saint Sava mean to us today?", reminding us of the spiritual and historical significance of the first Serbian archbishop.
The past two years have seen the discussion of Njegoš's spiritual image and the Kosovo myth, which are the backbone of history, culture, and Orthodoxy. In that spirit, we will recall the significance and path of Saint Sava, which we continue to walk today.

"Colors of God" Exhibition
January 27th at 7pm.
on Zlatibor
As part of the event "In Spiritual Footsteps", on Tuesday, January 27, at 7 p.m., the exhibition "The Colors of God" by icon painter Mijalko Đunisijević will open.
"Through painting these works, I dealt with the question of canon: What is canon and what could a canon be? I was interested in the relationship between icon painting and contemporary art, and where their points of intersection are. What is the path of an icon painter in the contemporary world and how should one approach solving painting problems?"
By entering into a dialogue with contemporary art and finding a close, if not the same language, new forms are created that are essentially, in content, no different from, say, forms from the Palaeologus Renaissance, just as the Komnenos Icon differs from the iconography from the Church of the Holy Cross in the Ostrog Monastery," says the author.
