His Eminence Archbishop and Metropolitan of Žička, Mr. Dr. Justin (Stefanović)
His Eminence Archbishop and Metropolitan of Žička, Mr. Dr. Justin (Stefanović), was born on May 26, 1955 in Čačak, to father Stanislav in the monastery of Nektarije and mother Danica in the monastery of Hristina, and was given the name Miroslav at baptism. He studied elementary and secondary school, as well as the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade. He began his monastic life in 1980 in the Crna Reka Monastery, where he received monastic tonsure in 1983 from Bishop Pavle of Raška-Prizren, later Patriarch of Serbia.
In parallel with his monastic obediences, he enrolled in the Faculty of Theology of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Belgrade and graduated from it in 1987. In Athens, he completed postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Athens. In 1991, he became abbot of the Crna Reka Monastery.
At the regular session of the Holy Council of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church on May 27, 1992, he was elected Vicar Bishop of Hvostan and appointed as deputy to the ailing Bishop of Timok, Mr. Milutin, with all the rights and duties of a diocesan bishop. The ordination was performed in the Sopoćani Monastery on the day of the Holy Doctors Cosmas and Damian, July 14, 1992. The ordination was performed by Serbian Patriarch Pavle, with the concelebration of a large number of bishops.
He works tirelessly on the renewal of church and monastic life in the Timok Diocese. He has been elected three times as a member of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church. He participates in many domestic and international theological and scientific gatherings, congresses and symposiums. He translates and publishes theological texts and scientific works from Greek.
For more than three decades, he has been engaged in art - making woodcarving crosses and woodcarving. He has exhibited his works of art at several collective and solo exhibitions. One of them is the exhibition Contemporary Orthodox Art at the Gallery of Applied Arts in Belgrade in 1995. On the occasion of the celebration of the anniversary - twenty years of his archpastoral service in the Timok Diocese, Bishop Justin also presented his works of art at a solo exhibition entitled "The Power of the Holy Cross" at the National Museum in Zaječar on September 29, 2012. The same exhibition was shown at the "Stevan Mokranjac" gallery on January 27, 2012 in Negotin, as well as at the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade on May 22, 2014, opened under the title "Tree of Life". Then, during 2014, the exhibition was shown at the National Museums in Kraljevo, Čačak and Užice.
On March 25, 2014, His Eminence Bishop Justin defended his master's thesis on the topic of Repentance according to the Teaching of the Apostolic Fathers.
At the regular session of the Holy Council of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church in May 2014, he was elected Bishop of Žič.
At the Orthodox Theological Faculty "St. Basil of Ostrog" in Foča, on November 23, 2017, the Bishop successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "The Possibility of Applying the Penitential Practice of the Early Church in the Modern Age".
For his many years of work as a diocesan bishop, he received many church and social awards, including the title of honorary citizen of the city of Zaječar,
awarded in 2006.
From May 28, 2024, the title of Bishop Justin is: His Eminence Archbishop and Metropolitan of Žička.
